Daz's 2014 Tour

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

In February 2012 our family experienced first-hand the tragedy that can occur for cyclists on our roads, when my Father In-Law was killed out on his morning ride. This event has caused much sadness and change throughout our family and we will only ever be able to share stories with our children about their wonderful Grandfather, who unfortunately they will never meet.

As a keen social cyclist I put my wife, Tracy, in a difficult position every time I head off on the bike and the risks of road cycling are always in the back of my mind while out riding. Since moving to Melbourne in early 2013, I have been looking for a way to contribute to improvements in cycling safety and that is when I discovered the Amy Gillett Foundation.

This year I have committed to joining the Amy Gillett - Share the Road Tour to do my part in raising awareness, and supporting changes to infrastructure and road rules that will make a real difference to road safety for cyclists.

As part of this commitment I will be riding 1100km from Brisbane to Airlie Beach and have also promised to raise a minimum of $7,500 for the foundation to support their ongoing campaigns, such as the ‘A Metre Matters’ program.

If you are a serious cyclist, commuter or have loved ones who enjoy spending time on the bike, please provide a donation to this cause and ensure that we continue to improve general safety for cyclists on our roads.

I appreciate any amount you may be able to donate.

Thank you,

Darren

Amy Gillett Foundation

The Amy Gillett Foundation (AGF) began its work in 2006 in the name of Amy Gillett, who was tragically killed as a result of being hit by a motorist whilst cycling with the Australian Women’s Road cycling team in Germany in 2005.
The Amy Gillett Foundation's vision is for safe bicycling throughout Australia in order to achieve the ultimate target of zero bicycling fatalities.
The Foundation promotes a safe and harmonious relationship of shared respect between bicyclists and motorists – to highlight the importance of being responsible every time we head out on the road whether we're on two wheels or on four. Why? Because everyone deserves to arrive at their destination safely irrespective of their chosen mode of transport.
